Machine Learning Research

I contributed to two papers about data augmentation that were led by Professor Ruslan Salakhutdinov, a distinguished professor at Carnegie Mellon University and a leader in the machine learning field. We used our ML approach on a real-world weed recognition task using the invasive leafy spurge weeds on MPG ranch, a conservation property specializing in restoring animal habitats negatively impacted by invasive weeds. As a team, we got together in-person to collect data on the ranch and continue to meet about twice a week on Zoom. This paper has now been cited over 175 times. It was accepted into NUERIPS and ICLR, two prestigious machine learning conferences, and I helped to present this paper.

I will be attending the NeurIPS 2024 Workshop on Adaptive Foundation Models and the Fine-Tuning in Modern Machine Learning: Principles and Scalability (FITML) Workshop to assist in presenting the paper. This past summer I was also a visiting researcher at Carnegie Mellon University.

Here’s a video of me speaking at Nuerips last December. 16:55 is where I start speaking.

Some photos on the ranch doing research!

My dad teaching me how to use binoculars!

Taking care of animals on the farm when I was little.

In addition to researching leafy spurge, I also help to research bears on the ranch. Recently I helped to tag a bear.

The Biggest Little Farm Documentary

I contributed footage to the documentary, the Biggest Little Farm. Some footage I shot of bees was used in the film!
